Community elders and leaders of Orimerunmu town in Obafemi local government of Ogun State have appealed to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to look in the direction of the town in his next phase of roadd infrastructure development.
The appeal was made at a townhall meeting attended by representatives of about 133 community development associations, social groups and religious organisations held in Orimerunmu over the weekend.
The community leaders appreciated Gov. Abiodun for counting the community road worthy of identification for reconstruction during an inspection of Mowe/Òfàda road shortly before the governorship election in March which he promised to reconstruct alongside other roads in Obafemi Owode Local Government.
The 5km road linking the express way at Olowotedo bus stop ran through Orimerunmu and terminates at Jabutu but has become a huge burden to the community due to activities of trucks and heavy duty vehicles patronising the dredging companies mining sand at a nearby community, Oriyanrin along the Ogun river.
Qrimerunmu community leaders stated that the town through it’s access road to the mining site is a revenue earner for the Federal Government as well as the state and local government through royalties and tolls paid by the companies and the numerous trucks making use of Orimerunmu road.
The community noted that successive governors in Ogun state from the days of Otunba Gbenga Daniel through to the tenure of Sen. Ibikunle Amosun have visited the town during electioneering campaigns and promised to construct the road only to jettison their promises.
A delegation raised by the community to meet with the chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Hon. Adesina, to seek the support of the local government to enlist the Orimerunmu community main road in the list of roads to be constructed by Ogun State government based on the governors’ earlier pledge has since met with the Hon. Adesina and further consultations other government agencies are ongoing.
