Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has invited former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for interrogation over the controversial dollar video.
Confirming the invitation, yesterday, Chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, said Ganduje was issued notice to appear before it within seven days.
“We have an arrangement with forensic experts to analyse the video, and we will do everything possible to investigate the matter and any other corruption matter in Kano.
“Subsequent to our pledge to follow due process in investigating the allegation, the commission expects the former governor to appear before it next week to clear his name. I have signed a letter to invite him for questioning at the commission next week because this is what the law says. We will give him ample opportunity to defend himself,” said the agency’s boss.
Rimin-Gado also stated that forensic examination experts confirmed to him that the viral video depicting Ganduje allegedly receiving dollar bribe from contractors was not doctored.
He stated this while responding to questions from participants at a Public Dialogue on Anti-Corruption Crusade at the Kano Anti-Corruption Institute in Kano, on Wednesday.
The anti-graft czar further stated that within the new administration’s first month in office, a commissioner under Ganduje was arrested and is being grilled on alleged N1 billion fraud.
Meanwhile the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has told Ganduje not to honour the invitation.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, and Secretary, Alhaji Zakari Sarina, Kano APC said it realised that the reenactment of the dollar video issue by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) was part of a sinister ploy to dent the former governor’s image.
It explained that similar scenario was played to scuttle Ganduje’s chance of securing re-election in 2019.
According to the statement, this time, the detractors are engaged in the campaign to draw a wedge between President Bola Tinubu and Ganduje, one of the President’s strongest allies in the North.
While Ganduje’s contributions to the Tinubu political project, right from the primary election, are widely appreciated, his relationship with the President remains cordial, Kano APC added.
