Ex-Minister, Demola Seriki is dead

Demola Seriki, a Lagos socialite and former minister of state for defence is dead.

Family sources revealed that the top Lagos politician who is Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain died in the early hours of Thursday, at about 2am in Madrid, from cancer.

His family confirmed the sad development in a statement on Thursday.

“Innā lillāhi-wa-innā-ilayhi-rājiun

“It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude to Almighty Allah that we announce the loss of our much loved and admired patriarch, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, His Excellency, Ambassador Ademola Rasaq Atanda Seriki (CON) on December 15th, 2022.

“He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Madrid, Spain,” the statement, signed by his Children, read.

Born 30th November 1959, Ademola was a politician, teacher, businessman, and public administrator and the Otun Aare of Lagos.

Before his appointment as envoy, Seriki had served in several capacities. He headed the ministry of state for agriculture and water resources from 2007 to 2008 and between 2009 and March 2010, he was the minister of state for interior.

He was also the minister of state for defence from 2008 to 2009. Seriki also served as the minister for mines and steel development from October 2008 to December 2008.
The family is yet to release his burial plans.
