Hilda Effiong Bassey, Nigerian chef, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has surpassed the current Guinness World Record holder.
With her feat, she’s poised to break the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” after hitting the 87 hours 50 minutes mark.
The restaurateur began the competition on Thursday after she turned on her cooker at 4pm and surpassed the current world record holder on Monday morning.
If certified by the Guinness World Record, she will be displacing the current world record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours 45 minutes record uninterrupted cooking.
Baci’s cooking marathon is currently ongoing at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State.
In her ongoing record-breaking attempt, Nigerians, including several celebrities defied the rain to physically cheer up the visibly tired chef.
Baci hit the four-day mark on Monday morning.
The chef won the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, pocketing a grand prize of $5000.
Following an inquiry by a Twitter user @AlexanderDGreat who queried: “Why is @GWR not showing or talking about Hilda’s cook-a-ton? Can’t see anything on their pages (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube)”
The Guinness World Record via its official Twitter page, it said: “We’re aware of this amazing record attempt…
“We need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record”
The first step for any successful Guinness World Records title holder is the quality of their application.
Also, the length of time for the application process and then the evidence review for the attempt itself are taken into consideration.
The body on its website said: “The second stage of the application process happens after your attempt has taken place and requires you to submit your evidence to us for review.
“Once you have submitted your evidence for a record attempt, there will be an evidence review period. The timeframe for this stage will also depend on the type of application you have opt for.
“It can take up to 12 weeks for us to review your documentation and let you know if your record attempt has been accepted as the new record holder or rejected.”
