Kuje Medium Security Correctional Facility is reportedly under heavy bombardments by suspected terrorists, throwing the entire city into confusion.
Eye witness account reported that the first explosion, a high-capacity bomb, went off around 10.25 pm. It was followed by a second and third blast and sporadic gunshots that left residents scampering into safety.
A few hours earlier, a security report had reportedly alerted prison officials of a possible attack on the medium prison.
A prison staff, who confirmed the attack explained that the attackers struck from the back of the prison yard.
Residents of Kuje have gone on social media raising an alarm as sporadic gunshots continued at the facility at press time.
