Dr. Olusegun Aganga has revealed his ministry’s intention to target the booming entertainment industry to create jobs and improve the country’s GDP. This, he disclosed when the international committee members of All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) visited the ministry recently in Abuja. According to him, all the potentials in the entertainment industry need to be tapped to create opportunities for our youths and also to improve the country’s economy. Therefore, he says, the private sector must be encouraged to drive this process just like AFRIMA is planning through its proposed summit on how to address unlocking the potentials in the entertainment sector and most especially the music industry saying the trade and investment ministry will be glad to partner with AFRIMA.
Mike Dada, the AFRIMA Project Director, in his earlier presentation pointed out that the event is not all about the social engagement because there is a two-day summit that will precede the award ceremony slated for October. The summit, according to him is to engage both local and international stakeholders in the industry on how to drive the industry in a business-like manner that will be enduring and sustainable. The summit is to attract international music business owners like label owners and ICT solution providers to engage practitioners and stakeholders in pushing the African music industry forward for the posterity of the continent.
In the same vein, the project is said to have also won the endorsement and collaboration of the office of the Secretary to Federal Government (SFG), Culture and Tourism ministry, Information ministry, the Nigeria Police Force and the office of DSS who have given assurances for adequate security of lives and properties of local and international visitors during the period of hosting the award ceremony in Nigeria.
