More facts have emerged on the Budget Padding controversy rocking the National Assembly with reports that Senate President, Godswill Akpabio allocated N90bn to his constituency. BudgIT, a non- governmental organisation claimed that Akpabio padded the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, with 280 projects in the 2024 Budget. SERAP drags Akpabio, NASS to court over N344.85bn
SERAP is also arguing that the National Assembly ought to be more responsible to the public interest and more responsive to it. The National Assembly, it says, has a constitutional responsibility to combat waste and abuse in its spending if it is to effectively exercise its oversight functions and hold the government to account.

Ex-Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has been disqualified by an Abuja Appeal Court from contesting as senator representing Akwa-Ibom North West Senatorial District in the 2023 General Elections. The judgment was delivered on Monday evening in the Federal Capital Territory.
