Former chairman of the Appropriation Committee in the Senate and People’s Democratic Party governorship Aspirant in Osun State, Otunba Iyiola Omisore is now the most powerful politician from the South West in the People’s Democratic Party because the Ile Ife born politician is the one who now controls the machinery of the party in the South West simply because the diminutive politician has the ears of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Ex- President Obasanjo, whose influence in the PDP has wanedtremendously having lost the key men he planted in positions of authority in the party such as Ex- Ekiti State governor, Engr. Segun Oni, who was the party’s Vice Chairman, South West before he was removed by the PDP national working committee and Ex Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who was sacked as the party’s National Secretary, Omisore has quietly moved in filling every available post with his core loyalists and his influence is sky rocketing in the South West PDP.
Of recent, Sen. Omisore has been the unseen hand behind some appointments and decisions taken by the South West caucus of the party. Samplers: when the leadership of the party was seeking a replacement for former National Secretary of the Party, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the former Osun State governor, a preferred candidate of ex-President Obasanjo, who was sacked by an Abuja High Court, it was Omisore who singlehandedly pushed through his preferred candidate Prof. Wale Oladipo, who was his former campaign coordinator to fill the post.
Omisore’s game plan was to instruct the Osun State exco of the party, which he installed, to invite party members to a meeting with some PDP officials from Abuja only for the party men to get there and Prof.
Oladipo’s hand was raised as the party’s choice for the post of National Secretary of the PDP. When his friend and former Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose ran into trouble because his supporters attacked the party’s secretariat where the state governorship consensus committee constituted against Fayose’s wish was to be sworn-in and Fayose was indefinitely suspended by the Ekiti State chapter of the PDP, he ran to his friend and associate, Iyiola Omisore, who used his over bearing influence on the PDP South West caucus of the party to overrule the Ekiti State PDP chapter.
