Ibrahim El- Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), is alive, hale and hearty, according to sources.
There had been rumours about his physical condition and alleged death, which is creating tension especially among some of his followers.
But NAN said a security source dismissed the death rumour and described it as the handiwork of mischief makers, plotting to create tension and cause chaos.
“There is no truth in the rumours of his death. Those carrying the rumour have taken advantage of the period of Ramadan to curry unnecessary sympathy,” the source reportedly said.
The agency added that Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), top Islamic leaders and members of Zakzaky’s family had in the past visited the imprisoned leader.
Zakzaky has been in the custody of DSS. He was arrested on December 14, 2015, following a clash between some of his followers and soldiers.
