UPDATED: Duyile, Ohens to receive Lifetime Achiever, Africa Courage awards in Holland

Dedicated to the principles of good governance, social justice, and equal opportunities for all, Dr. Joseph Adonor Ohens is set to be honored with the prestigious Africa Courage Award on the 29th of September, 2023. This remarkable recognition is being conferred by The Voice Magazine, based in Almere, The Netherlands.

The accolade comes as a result of Dr. Ohens’ unwavering commitment to advocating for good governance, his impactful humanitarian endeavours, and his substantial contributions to the development of local communities.

Ohens will receive the award alongside veteran journalist and media scholar, Dr. Dayo Duyile, former Director of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, who recently at age 80 became the oldest PhD holder from the University of Lagos. Duyile, an old generation journalist and former editor of the Daily Sketch is to be honoured in the lifetime achievers category.

The esteemed award will be formally bestowed upon the philanthropist, who hails from Opoji, Edo State, during the upcoming The Voice Achievers Award 2023 event. Themed “Harnessing Our Diversity For The Advancement of Africa,” the event is scheduled to take place on the 28th and 29th of September, 2023, in Almere, The Netherlands.

Dr. Joseph Ohens’ journey in journalism took flight from 1989 to 2001, with stints at the Nigeria Observer and CityNews Newspapers. His journalism career soared to new heights, eventually leading him to become the General Manager and Editor-in-Chief during the critical period of Nigeria’s return to democracy in the era of Generals Babangida and Abacha.

With a relentless commitment to the ideals of good governance, social justice, and equal opportunity, Dr. Ohens embarked on a path of education and personal growth. He pursued a degree in law at the Lagos State University and continued to expand his horizons, attaining Master of Laws and Doctor of the Science of Law degrees from the esteemed University of California, Berkeley School of Law.

In the present day, Dr. Ohens contributes his expertise to a major healthcare system in California’s North Coast as Senior Vice President and directly oversees his organization’s Compliance, Risk Management, Privacy, Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, Credentialing, and Peer Review programs. His commitment to education remains unwavering, as he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law, imparting knowledge in Advanced Legal Writing and U.S. Health System and Policy.

Dr. Ohens’ remarkable journey and contributions have not only garnered recognition but have also served as a testament to the potential of individuals to drive positive change and make a lasting impact on the world around them.
