President Muhammadu Buhari has finally resolved to reduce the number of aircrafts in the Presidential fleet in a bid to cut government expenditure.
There are currently 10 aircrafts in the presidential fleet. The country however has no national airline.
A technical committee has already been formed to determine the fate of the presidential fleet.
President Buhari, during his campaign, promised to cut down the fleet which he said was draining the government’s purse.
The fleet includes a Boeing Business Jet, Gulfstream aircraft, Falcon, Hawker Series, Augusta and helicopters.
The current economic recession may have spurred the president to take action after more than one year in office.
Garba Shehu, a president’s spokesman, said the committee had commenced work to reduce the numbers of the planes in the fleet.
“Some aircrafts will be boarded, some others returned to the Air Force for operation,” he wrote on Twitter.
According to Femi Adesina, the president’s media advisor, the move was in line with the change mantra of the government.
He said the president’s action was in step with “Change Begin With Me” campaign launched on Thursday.
